Inter-State Life Expenses
June 10th, 2008 at 02:38 pmA couple weeks ago, my wife and I moved across the state of PA from the wild western part outside Pittsburgh to the Harrisburg-area.
I know gas prices are different across the entire country, and even across states, but one thing that amazes me is how gas price and usage dramatically changes your cost of living.
We used a ton of gas in daily travel where we lived in Western PA, generally using two tanks a week just for our work commutes. I'm still (sorta) trying to sell my significant other on the idea that moving east was, in fact, for the best.
I'd love to make an average cost of living map to show her, and then a national gas prices map, too. She's a very visual person, and I'm thinking producing those two maps together might be able to convince her that even though housing prices are higher in Central PA, our cost of living will still be about the same.
